Brave Awareness With Ronn Pawo McLane

Welcome to Brave Awareness — a podcast by Ronn Pawo McLane, meditation teacher, author, poet, and survivor of the human condition.

This is not a self-help show, and it’s not a performance. These are transmissions: poetic reflections, spiritual disruptions, and sacred interruptions.

Here you’ll find radically honest awareness wrapped in calm. The intention isn’t to teach you how to fix yourself, but to help you remember that you’re not broken.

If you’ve been quietly drowning in insight and craving clarity that doesn’t preach, this is your home.

This week I want to talk about grief.

Not just the kind that gets casseroles. Not just the losses the world recognizes with ceremony and time off and people checking in.

All of it. The grief that has a name and the grief that doesn’t. The loss of a person and the loss of a version of yourself. The abrupt and the gradual. The enormous and the small.

And underneath all of it — the thing that grief is almost always also about, whether we name it or not — the confrontation with our own mortality. With the fact that everything ends. With the helplessness of being a human being who cannot control outcomes no matter how much we love or prepare or try.

This episode came from a week in my own life. And I want to share it honestly.

The Body Knows Before You Do

Monday Jun 08, 2026

Monday Jun 08, 2026

There is a debate happening right now in trauma research about whether the body actually keeps the score. A new paper says the brain keeps it instead.

But here is what forty years of practice has taught me that no paper has managed to disprove.

The body knows before you do.

Not because it stores trauma in tissue. But because it is reading a signal your conscious mind has not yet received. The tightness in your chest before you know why. The way your stomach drops in a meeting before your mind has named what is wrong. The exhaustion that arrives before the grief does.

This episode is about what that signal is, why it arrives first, and why the practice has to begin there before it can begin anywhere else.

EPISODE DESCRIPTION
You see the problem before anyone else does. You already have the solution forming before they have finished describing it. You move toward fixing it because the fastest way to relieve everyone’s stress — including your own — is to resolve it.
This is over-functioning. And it looks like helpfulness from the outside. From the inside, it is exhausting, frequently thankless, and quietly costing you more than you have named.
This episode is about the nervous system survival strategy hiding inside the helper. What drives it. What it costs. And what becomes available when you learn to put it down.

The Climb

Monday May 25, 2026

Monday May 25, 2026

EPISODE DESCRIPTION

What do you do when you reach toward someone with genuine care, and they experience it as an attack?
What do you do when the wall goes up and stays up, and you are the one sitting with the injury while they hold the silence?
And what does it cost — and what does it mean — to be the one who climbs over that wall anyway?
This episode is about conscious compassion in an intimate relationship. Not the easy version. The real one. The one that asks something of you, even when you are the one who deserved the apology.

When the Practice Fails

Monday May 18, 2026

Monday May 18, 2026

EPISODE DESCRIPTION

This is the honest episode.

The one where we stop pretending that understanding something is the same as being able to do it under pressure.

You know the framework. You have the awareness. You have read the book, listened to the episodes, done the practice. And then something hits — something real, something fast, something that lands in your body before your mind has a chance to catch up — and you fall apart anyway.

What happened? Did the practice fail? Did you fail?

Neither. Something more important happened. And this episode is about what that is.

Acceptance Is Not Approval

Monday May 11, 2026

Monday May 11, 2026

Last week I made you a promise.

I said we were going deeper into what happens when a room full of people encounters the same thing and comes away in completely different worlds. Today, we start there.

Because the reason people experience the same event so differently, the same loss, the same betrayal, the same moment that should have broken everyone equally, often comes down to one quiet confusion that almost nobody talks about.

The confusion between accepting something and approving of it.

In Brave Awareness, I gave you the Five A’s. Acceptance is the third of them. Today, we go inside it. Because this single distinction, accepting versus approving, is the difference between a person who can move and a person who is still arguing with the past.

Last week the teaching was this: you were never broken — you were conditioned. And so was everyone around you.

This week: what does that actually mean in practice?

Does understanding someone’s conditioning mean accepting the harm they cause? Does compassion require compliance? And what do we do with the very real anger, grief, and exhaustion that comes from being on the receiving end of someone else’s unexamined patterns?

In this episode Ronn draws the sharpest possible distinction between understanding and endorsing — and shows why accountability without contempt is not weakness. It is the most precise and powerful position available.

This is the episode that protects the teaching from being mistaken for spiritual bypassing. And it is an essential companion to Episode 1.

Season 2 · Episode 01 You Were Never Broken — You Were Conditioned
Season 2 begins — and it begins with a confession.
Last season Ronn Pawo McLane announced he had written a book. Now it's out in the world. And what the experience of publishing it taught him is the thesis for this entire season:
You were never broken. You were conditioned.
In this opener, Ronn explores what conditioning actually means, why "broken" is the wrong frame for human struggle, and why this understanding — applied not just to yourself but to everyone around you — is the beginning of a freedom that doesn't depend on anyone else changing first.
Season 2 is here. Welcome back. And if you're new — welcome home.

Episode 12 – The Vow: The End of a Season, the Beginning of a Path
As this powerful first season of Brave Awareness comes to a close, I share something deeply personal with you—the story behind writing the book that inspired it all.
This isn't just a reflection on a manuscript. It's a commitment to a practice that meets life exactly where it is. In this final episode, I reveal The Brave Awareness Vow—a living mantra that invites us to respond to life with clarity, presence, and compassion… without abandoning ourselves.
This vow is not a badge of enlightenment. It's a compass for the messy, beautiful, ever-beginning path of being okay, even when life isn’t.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Season 2 is already calling.

Episode 11: How to Be Okay When Life Isn’tWhen life gets heavy, chaotic, or uncertain — what does it actually mean to be “okay”? Not in a performative, spiritual bypass way. But in a real, grounded, embodied way?
In this episode, Ronn shares a deeply honest look at those quiet moments when everything feels just slightly off — and the tools that often fail us. Instead of reaching for a fix, what happens when we choose to remain?
This is not a pep talk. It’s a practice.
You’ll explore:
The myth of constant equanimity
Why “just breathe” sometimes doesn’t work
How Brave Awareness helps us stay rooted when life isn’t okay
And you’ll leave with a simple but powerful invitation:You don’t have to be okay because life is okay. You’re allowed to be okay even when it isn’t.
This episode is the quiet before the vow — the penultimate step before the season finale.
